Cheyyar

Here is the information about my home town , where i used to play with my cousins and brother . A nice beautiful place with mountains and river . Find below the History of Cheyyar.

Cheyyar also known as Tiruvettipuram .Thiruvanthipuram is a town in the Tiruvannamalai District near Kanchipuram in the Tami Nadu state of South India. It gets its name from the Cheyyar River. The town has an ancient temple called Vedapureeswarar temple situated on the banks of the river.
There is a legend that Thirugnana Sambandar, one of the four great saivite saint visited the temple and changed a male palm tree to flower by singing verses in Tamil.
It has been in North Arcot District(Currently Vellore District) until Tiruvannamalai district was formed. Cheyyar has a sub collector office and is the second largest town in Tiruvannamalai District. It is well connected from Chennai by road. It is just 30km from Kanchipuram.
This town has a Government Arts College from the early 1970's.
The chief occupation of the people is Agriculture and Handlooming. Also the Rice mills are very popular in cheyyar. The Cheyyar co-operative sugars one of the largest sugar mill in the country is situated near the town.
Cheyyar came into the radar of the Industrialization following the establishment of the industrial complex by the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) Limited. Since the investment hot-spots such as Sriperumbudur and Oragadam is getting over crowded cheyyar became the alternative choice. This is evidenced by the recent announcements of Sector specific Hi-Tech SEZ for Automative (300 acres), electronic hardware park (300 acre) and the commitment from the Taiwanese Shoe Company to set up its unit

So thats all about my hometown . I hope u all learnt new lessons . bye take care
