COMMUNICATION

There are three factors that influence communications are Non-verbal, Tone of voice and verbal. Non-verbal is mainly visual – written medium, look etc. Tone of voice can be from aggression to pleasing. Verbal is normal communication but least effect method. Poor listening leads at family are Misunderstand and negative messages and at work are wrong decisions.

The main barriers to listen to any communication are:

Pre-occupation
Span of attention.
Insignificance of the subject that is communicated.

We must be good listeners and for this we must practice some things like:

Sit up and be attentive
Maintain eye contact
Interactive ness – give and receive feedback.

Do not interrupt.

Do not change the subject – however trivial it may be.

In an ongoing communication process if you fell like giving comments please try to follow some rules:

Criticisze like a coach

Be specific

Criticize the behavior not the person

Try to criticize in private – if that is not possible moderate you criticism

Get your facts right before you start commenting,

Give the other person the opportunity to explain.

FINALLY END THE CONVERSATION IN A POSITIVE NOTE.

A small example: We de meet almost every day one or other salesman trying to push his products or services – do not be angry – it is his job – In stead of harshly refusing and asking the salesman to get out – try saying something like: “I will certainly consider this in future but sorry at present not required please” Yes add the please in the last – even if you as customer is the KING.
