A NEW TREND IN THE GAME OF CRICKET?

For us Indians and for those others who support Indian cricket team last week was the sweetest week – Our team has beaten Australian team decisively in their own land and took the Commonwealth Bank cup. Cricket is taken very seriously in India and Pakistan

-any victory the whole country goes into rapture! Any defeat is not taken lightly – much anger is vented against the players – there was the episode of Mr. Dhoni’s house being damaged last year and now he is adulated!!

Today we talk about the youngsters who have lifted the game to its zenith and tomorrow the same lads might become objects of out irk. We are still not mature enough to take victory as well as defeat in our stride. After all – in spite of the heavy amounts that are being tooled out these days to the players – it is still a game.

Talking of game – is cricket being turned into a game show? The sledging issues and racist remarks – if at all they were made – the face offs done by the players on the field all these point out to some new fashion developing in this game – Remember the reality shows where the participants pick up arguments during the programmes? The World Wrestling Championships in America where every sort of gimmicks are being doled out to please the gullible audience? I suspect – if this kind of misbehaviour continues to happen in cricket we can witness a similar game show in stead of a genuine game.

The game has now come into the hands of Corporates who have the catch word called innovation. The day is not far that we may have to witness cricket conducted a show instead of a genuine gentleman game.
