Thought for the day

Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Mohartama Benazir Bhutto

Adding to the long list of assassinations is the one of Benazir Bhutto .Coming second only to the murky murder of Bob Woolmer is her assassination…murky simply for the fact that there are too many probables who could have done this horrendous crime. If there is one sport where cowards win, we should call the sport terrorism. Her death is definitely not a surprise but a shocking revelation of how terrorism grows day by day. After an attempt at Karachi, at Rawalpindi terrorism has had the last laugh.

Benazir Bhutto was Pakistan’s only window to the liberal world,(President Musharraf is definitely not an option)the window has been finally shut due to a coward who tried to find answers by blowing himself up. Benazir tried to bridge the east-west divide in fundamentalist Pakistan. Not many of Pakistan’s daughters come out and take on their fellow countrymen but she did that and full credit to her gutsy persona. This daughter made her mother proud by becoming the country’s first woman Prime Minister. Refusal to give in was her strongest strength and also proved to be her Achilles heel as she was assassinated in spite of prior warnings. She was criticized for her accent and her inability to speak flawless Urdu….but to hell with that because scores of men idiolised her, supported her and were nevertheless inspired by her. Definitely no Fatwas for that. Her life was threatened but there she was addressing thousands of supporters and proving that she was indeed a “mass leader”. POLITICS IS A SOUP…SMELLS GOOD, BUT LEAVES A BITTER TASTE BEHIND. She understood this perfectly and was ready for the bitterness

Benazir Bhutto was a charismatic leader and followed her father’s footsteps literally. She might have had her previous terms as Prime Minister shrouded by corruption charges. But definitely her death will put Pakistan on the backfoot. Democracy and a dream of a secular Pakistan is definitely not on the New Year Resolution list of Pakistan in 2008.

10 Essential Health Tips (The Basics to Practice Every Day)

"He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything." -Arabian Proverb

1. Move MoreMake it a daily challenge to find ways to move your body. Climb stairs if given a choice between that and escalators or elevators. Walk your dog; chase your kids; toss balls with friends, mow the lawn. Anything that moves your limbs is not only a fitness tool, it's a stress buster. Think 'move' in small increments of time. It doesn't have to be an hour in the gym or a 45-minute aerobic dance class or tai chi or kickboxing. But that's great when you're up to it. Meanwhile, move more. Thought for the day: Cha, Cha, Cha…. Then do it!
2. Cut FatAvoid the obvious such as fried foods, burgers and other fatty meats (i.e. pork, bacon, ham, salami, ribs and sausage). Dairy products such as cheese, cottage cheese, milk and cream should be eaten in low fat versions. Nuts and sandwich meats, mayonnaise, margarine, butter and sauces should be eaten in limited amounts. Most are available in lower fat versions such as substitute butter, fat free cheeses and mayonnaise. Thought for the day: Lean, mean, fat-burning machine…. Then be one!
3. Quit Smoking The jury is definitely in on this verdict. Ever since 1960 when the Surgeon General announced that smoking was harmful to your health, Americans have been reducing their use of tobacco products that kill. Just recently, we've seen a surge in smoking in adolescents and teens. Could it be the Hollywood influence? It seems the stars in every movie of late smoke cigarettes. Beware. Warn your children of the false romance or 'tough guy' stance of Hollywood smokers. Thought for the day: Give up just one cigarette…. the next one.
4. Reduce Stress Easier said than done, stress busters come in many forms. Some techniques recommended by experts are to think positive thoughts. Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like. (i.e.,Soak in a hot tub; walk on the beach or in a park; read a good book; visit a friend; play with your dog; listen to soothing music; watch a funny movie. Get a massage, a facial or a haircut. Meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible. Thought for the day: When seeing red, think pink clouds….then float on them.
5. Protect Yourself from Pollution If you can't live in a smog-free environment, at least avoid smoke-filled rooms, high traffic areas, breathing in highway fumes and exercising near busy thoroughfares. Exercise outside when the smog rating is low. Exercise indoors in air conditioning when air quality is good. Plant lots of shrubbery in your yard. It's a good pollution and dirt from the street deterrent. Thought for the day: 'Smoke gets in your eyes'…and your mouth, and your nose and your lungs as do pollutants….hum the tune daily.
6. Wear Your Seat BeltStatistics show that seat belts add to longevity and help alleviate potential injuries in car crashes. Thought for the day: Buckle down and buckle up.
7. Floss Your TeethRecent studies make a direct connection between longevity and teeth flossing. Nobody knows exactly why. Perhaps it's because people who floss tend to be more health conscious than people who don't? Thought for the day: Floss and be your body's boss.
8. Avoid Excessive Drinking While recent studies show a glass of wine or one drink a day (two for men) can help protect against heart disease, more than that can cause other health problems such as liver and kidney disease and cancer. Thought for the day: A jug of wine should last a long time.
9. Keep a Positive Mental Outlook There's a definitive connection between living well and healthfully and having a cheerful outlook on life. Thought for the day: You can't be unhappy when you're smiling or singing.
10. Choose Your Parents Well The link between genetics and health is a powerful one. But just because one or both of your parents died young in ill health doesn't mean you cannot counteract the genetic pool handed you. Thought for the day: Follow these basic tips for healthy living and you can better control your own destiny.

Taare Zameen Par (Preview)

Ishaan Awasthi is an eight-year-old whose world is filled with wonders that no one else seems to appreciate; colours, fish, dogs and kites are just not important in the world of adults, who are much more interested in things like homework, marks and neatness. And Ishaan just cannot seem to get anything right in class.
When he gets into far more trouble than his parents can handle, he is packed off to a boarding school to "be disciplined'. Things are no different at his new school, and Ishaan has to contend with the added trauma of separation from his family.
One day a new art teacher bursts onto the scene, Ram Shankar Nikumbh, who infects the students with joy and optimism. He breaks all the rules of "how things are done' by asking them to think, dream and imagine, and all the children respond with enthusiasm, all except Ishaan. Lemuria

The mystery of this submerged continent still haunts me , many scholars from the past say that the mankind evolved from this continent . A huge landmass connecting India to Austalia and Madagascar forming a Triangle was submerged due to consistent volcano and floods . Many has different version of Lemuria find below one version of Lemuria.

Lemuria was an ancient civilization which existed prior to and during the time of Atlantis. Physically, it is believed that Lemuria existed largely in the Southern Pacific, between North America and Asia/Australia. Lemuria is also sometimes referred to as Mu, or the Motherland (of Mu). At its peak of civilization, the Lemurian people were both highly evolved and very spiritual. While concrete physical evidence of this ancient continent may be difficult to find, many people "know" that they have a strong connection to Lemuria.

Cheyyar

Here is the information about my home town , where i used to play with my cousins and brother . A nice beautiful place with mountains and river . Find below the History of Cheyyar.

Cheyyar also known as Tiruvettipuram .Thiruvanthipuram is a town in the Tiruvannamalai District near Kanchipuram in the Tami Nadu state of South India. It gets its name from the Cheyyar River. The town has an ancient temple called Vedapureeswarar temple situated on the banks of the river.
There is a legend that Thirugnana Sambandar, one of the four great saivite saint visited the temple and changed a male palm tree to flower by singing verses in Tamil.
It has been in North Arcot District(Currently Vellore District) until Tiruvannamalai district was formed. Cheyyar has a sub collector office and is the second largest town in Tiruvannamalai District. It is well connected from Chennai by road. It is just 30km from Kanchipuram.
This town has a Government Arts College from the early 1970's.
The chief occupation of the people is Agriculture and Handlooming. Also the Rice mills are very popular in cheyyar. The Cheyyar co-operative sugars one of the largest sugar mill in the country is situated near the town.
Cheyyar came into the radar of the Industrialization following the establishment of the industrial complex by the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) Limited. Since the investment hot-spots such as Sriperumbudur and Oragadam is getting over crowded cheyyar became the alternative choice. This is evidenced by the recent announcements of Sector specific Hi-Tech SEZ for Automative (300 acres), electronic hardware park (300 acre) and the commitment from the Taiwanese Shoe Company to set up its unit

So thats all about my hometown . I hope u all learnt new lessons . bye take care

Global Warming

A part of the alarm that is being raised about global warming has to do with rising water temperatures, especially in the ocean. Scientists are studying warming waters all over the globe to determine the extent of the change. As global warming causes temperatures to rise in the oceans, glaciers and icecaps are melting more rapidly. One particular ice shelf in Antarctica, the northern section of the Larson B shelf, collapsed in recent years. Scientists got a rude awakening when they realized how fast the ice shelf could disintegrate.Global warming has the potential to make the earth a very inhospitable place to live. Rising temperatures in the oceans' waters are a clear indication that the process has begun. With the melting of ice in the glaciers, icecaps, and on the sea, it is only a matter of time before global warming has much more harmful effects. It is up to the people of the world to do what they can to make the future look brighter.

Making Hay

With some of the senior (not age-wise) heroines, moving on to more mature roles, there is a genuine paucity of leading ladies in Bollywood. Thankfully, the year has seen two promising newcomers, with good histrionic capabilities and stunning screen presence. Obviously we are referring to Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.

While the 'Sakina' of SAAWARIYA has bagged a plush role opposite Abhishek Bachchan in Rakeysh Mehra's DILLI 6, her compatriot, 'Shanti' of OM SHANTI OM, has three good projects lined up. And the lady confirms all three.

The first project that she will shoot for (from next month) is Nikhil Advani's CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, opposite Akhshay Kumar. After that it will be the Yash Raj project with RanbirKapoor. The third one (in the pipeline) is with the 'Chotey Nawab', Saif Ali Khan.
Way to go Deepika!

History of Christmas

The history of Christmas dates back over 4000 years. Many of our Christmas traditions were celebrated centuries before the Christ child was born. The 12 days of Christmas, the bright fires, the yule log, the giving of gifts, carnivals(parades) with floats, carolers who sing while going from house to house, the holiday feasts, and the church processions can all be traced back to the early Mesopotamians.

Many of these traditions began with the Mesopotamian celebration of New Years. The Mesopotamians believed in many gods, and as their chief god - Marduk. Each year as winter arrived it was believed that Marduk would do battle with the monsters of chaos. To assist Marduk in his struggle the Mesopotamians held a festival for the New Year. This was Zagmuk, the New Year's festival that lasted for 12 days.

The Mesopotamian king would return to the temple of Marduk and swear his faithfulness to the god. The traditions called for the king to die at the end of the year and to return with Marduk to battle at his side.

To spare their king, the Mesopotamians used the idea of a "mock" king. A criminal was chosen and dressed in royal clothes. He was given all the respect and privileges of a real king. At the end of the celebration the "mock" king was stripped of the royal clothes and slain, sparing the life of the real king.

The Persians and the Babylonians celebrated a similar festival called the Sacaea. Part of that celebration included the exchanging of places, the slaves would become the masters and the masters were to obey.

Early Europeans believed in evil spirits, witches, ghosts and trolls. As the Winter Solstice approached, with its long cold nights and short days, many people feared the sun would not return. Special rituals and celebrations were held to welcome back the sun.

In Scandinavia during the winter months the sun would disappear for many days. After thirty-five days scouts would be sent to the mountain tops to look for the return of the sun. When the first light was seen the scouts would return with the good news. A great festival would be held, called the Yuletide, and a special feast would be served around a fire burning with the Yule log. Great bonfires would also be lit to celebrate the return of the sun. In some areas people would tie apples to branches of trees to remind themselves that spring and summer would return.

The ancient Greeks held a festival similar to that of the Zagmuk/Sacaea festivals to assist their god Kronos who would battle the god Zeus and his Titans.

The Roman's celebrated their god Saturn. Their festival was called Saturnalia which began the middle of December and ended January 1st. With cries of "Jo Saturnalia!" the celebration would include masquerades in the streets, big festive meals, visiting friends, and the exchange of good-luck gifts called Strenae (lucky fruits).

The Romans decked their halls with garlands of laurel and green trees lit with candles. Again the masters and slaves would exchange places

"Jo Saturnalia!" was a fun and festive time for the Romans, but the Christians though it an abomination to honor the pagan god. The early Christians wanted to keep the birthday of their Christ child a solemn and religious holiday, not one of cheer and merriment as was the pagan Saturnalia.

But as Christianity spread they were alarmed by the continuing celebration of pagan customs and Saturnalia among their converts. At first the Church forbid this kind of celebration. But it was to no avail. Eventually it was decided that the celebration would be tamed and made into a celebration fit for the Christian Son of God.

Some legends claim that the Christian "Christmas" celebration was invented to compete against the pagan celebrations of December. The 25th was not only sacred to the Romans but also the Persians whose religion Mithraism was one of Christianity's main rivals at that time. The Church eventually was successful in taking the merriment, lights, and gifts from the Saturanilia festival and bringing them to the celebration of Christmas.

The exact day of the Christ child's birth has never been pinpointed. Traditions say that it has been celebrated since the year 98 AD. In 137 AD the Bishop of Rome ordered the birthday of the Christ Child celebrated as a solemn feast. In 350 AD another Bishop of Rome, Julius I, choose December 25th as the observance of Christmas.

My memories

I would like to share some memories with you all . In seventh standard we had a new geography teacher called Rahimunissa (Rahima ma'am) . It was the first day of geography class , the class was going on well she was giving notes and writing something on the blackboard . The next period was games period , The bell rang and geography class was still going on . Everybody was looking at the ground for playing games , Then ma'am finished the class and asked us about her handwriting in the balck board . She had actually scribbled on the board nobody could understand it , But one boy in our class called Aravind told ma'am " Your handwriting is so beautiful ma'am" (He told this thinking that she will leave them for the games period) . Then aravind got slapped by the teacher and ma'am said "Dont act too smart in my class" . Then everybody burst laughing .

I keep reminding this incident everytime when we all meet .

Yours
